Senior Street Lighting Engineer
Location: London
Rate: TBC
Working Pattern: Hybrid
Contract: 6 - Months
Spencer Clarke Group are recruiting for an experienced Senior Street Lighting Engineer to support a busy local authority highways and asset management function. This is a hands-on role covering day-to-day street lighting operations, contractor performance, inspections, inventory data, compliance, and delivery support across maintenance and small projects.
You will work closely with the Street Lighting and Highways leadership team and will take ownership of ensuring safe, compliant and well-managed street lighting services across the borough.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning and delivering inspection and maintenance programmes for street lighting assets
- Managing and monitoring the maintenance contract (planned and reactive works), ensuring targets and standards are met
- Maintaining and improving asset inventory data, reporting for energy calculations and planned works
- Upgrading installations to relevant British Standards and current codes of practice
- Producing estimates, specifications, schedules and programmes, plus supervising works on site
- Supporting use of systems such as works ordering platforms, GIS and central management/monitoring systems
- Liaising with utilities and third parties (including approvals for equipment on lighting assets)
- Handling complaints, queries, claims-related information, and recovery of damages where applicable
- Supporting emergency response activity, including planned night inspections where required
About You:
- Strong experience in street lighting / urban lighting / highways lighting within a local authority or similar environment
- Proven contractor management and service delivery experience
- Confident with asset inventory data and operational reporting
- Strong working knowledge of relevant standards and electrical safety compliance
- Able to communicate clearly with internal stakeholders, contractors and the public
