Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced Senior SEND Tribunal Officer to manage complex SEND appeals relating to the provision for children and young people with SEND within a South West Local Authority.
The Senior SEND Tribunal Officer will prepare responses to appeals and will provide key support to SEN Officers on all aspects of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST).
Essential Requirements:
- In depth knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation and statutory procedures, particularly the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice 2015.
- Experience in managing SEND Tribunal (SENDIST) appeals with proven experience of representing the Local Authority at hearings.
- Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to secure positive outcomes through effective mediation.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Arrange, coordinate, and facilitate mediation meetings between parents/carers, educational settings, and relevant professionals to resolve disputes without the need for a formal Tribunal hearing where possible.
- Represent the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings to defend the appropriateness of proposed service provision.
- Monitor and evaluate tribunal outcomes to identify trends, risks, and learning opportunities which drive continuous service improvement and enhance the quality of SEND provision.
Skills required:
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships to support effective collaboration and successful SEND Tribunal outcomes.
