Senior Planning Officer (Major Projects)
Location: West Midlands
Rate: £51.20 Per hour
Contract: 6 - months
Spencer Clarke Group are working with a public sector organisation to appoint a Senior Planning Officer (Major Projects) to support the Development Management function on major and complex planning applications.
This is a hands-on role supporting major investment and regeneration priorities, providing expert planning advice, producing high-quality reports, and working closely with senior stakeholders including Members, developers, agents and internal services.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing and accessing complex major planning applications and associated consents
- Providing expert advice on planning law, policy and guidance, and making reasoned recommendations
- Drafting clear committee reports and presenting to relevant panels/committees as required
- Supporting regeneration initiatives and programmes, including CPOs, LDOs and related delivery activity
- Negotiating with developers and stakeholders to secure policy compliant, high-quality outcomes
- Supporting condition discharge, monitoring development in progress, and contributing to duty cover when needed
- Acting as an expert witness where required, including inquiries/hearings/examinations
About you:
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- RTPI chartered, or eligible for chartered membership
- Strong Development Management experience, ideally including major and complex schemes
- Confident stakeholder management with Members, developers, agents and the public
- Excellent report writing and committee presentation skills
- Able to manage competing deadlines and work autonomously when required
