Family Support Worker

We are looking for a Family Support Worker to support one of our clients in the Durham area on a temporary basis.

Within this role, you will work directly with families experiencing a range of challenges, including poverty, domestic abuse, substance misuse, and issues around school attendance.

You will provide practical, hands-on support and structured interventions to help families build resilience, strengthen relationships, and ensure children remain safe and supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored, practical support to families within their homes and communities
  • Build trusting and professional relationships with parents, carers, and young people
  • Support families to develop life skills, improve wellbeing, and increase resilience
  • Work collaboratively with professionals to assess needs, set goals, and review progress
  • Deliver evidence based interventions and parenting programmes
  • Advocate on behalf of families when engaging with external agencies and services
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to the development of family plans
  • Work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends, to meet family needs

Key Requirements:

  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant children's services or social care field
  • Experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and families
  • Strong understanding of child development, safeguarding, and multi-agency working
  • Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • A flexible, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach
  • Ability to travel independently across County Durham


Contract Type: Temporary (3-6 months with expectation of an extension)
Pay Rate: £14.59
Working pattern - 37 hours per week, onsite
