Role Overview
We are seeking an ambitious and forward-thinking SEN Science Lead to drive excellence in science education and support high-quality teaching across a specialist provision.
This hybrid role combines classroom teaching with leadership responsibility. You will shape and deliver a broad, engaging science curriculum while supporting colleagues through coaching, quality assurance and professional development. The aim is to ensure all learners receive a personalised, inclusive and impactful learning experience.
About the Provision
The provision supports learners aged 7-19 through personalised and flexible education pathways. It is designed for young people who may be disengaged from education or require alternative approaches to succeed.
Learning takes place through one-to-one sessions, small group teaching and vocational environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of a high-quality, inclusive science curriculum
- Teach science across a range of settings, including small groups and one-to-one sessions
- Provide coaching, mentoring and CPD to colleagues to improve teaching practice
- Work with senior leaders to carry out quality assurance activities and drive improvement
- Monitor learner progress and support targeted interventions
- Collaborate with colleagues to personalise learning pathways and support outcomes
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health & safety and compliance
- Ensure accurate record-keeping, including learner data and progress tracking
- Contribute to whole-organisation curriculum development and strategic planning
Person Specification
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching Science
- Strong understanding of curriculum design and development
- Ability to lead, coach and support colleagues effectively
- Commitment to inclusive, learner-centred practice
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance
- Willingness to travel between sites
Desirable:
- Experience working within SEN or alternative provision settings
- Experience in a leadership or subject lead role
- Knowledge of quality assurance and improvement processes in education
