Role Overview


We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Primary SEN Lead Teacher to deliver high-quality, specialist education for children with Special Educational Needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new specialist provision, creating a structured, nurturing and ambitious learning environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
You will lead learning across KS1 and KS2 within a small specialist hub, working closely with teaching assistants and multidisciplinary professionals to deliver highly personalised education aligned to EHCP outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, adapted teaching for pupils with ASD and SEMH needs
  • Plan, deliver and assess personalised learning programmes based on EHCP outcomes
  • Lead teaching and learning across KS1 and KS2 within a specialist setting
  • Manage and support a team of teaching assistants
  • Create a structured, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
  • Support communication, emotional regulation, social development and independence
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent provision
  • Monitor progress, maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting requirements
  • Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and positive behaviour strategies at all times
  • Contribute to curriculum development and school improvement planning

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience working in a special school or SEN setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism and additional needs
  • Strong understanding of the Primary National Curriculum
  • Experience managing or leading teaching assistants
  • Strong planning, assessment and classroom management skills
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent and positive in challenging situations

Desirable:

  • SEN-specific qualification
  • Postgraduate training in Autism or related SEN specialism
