Aids and Adaptations Housing Surveyor


Location: East of England
Rate: £350 - 420 Per day
Contract: 6 - months

Spencer Clarke Group are recruiting for an Aids and Adaptations Housing Surveyor to support a local authority team delivering disabled facilities and adaptation works. This is a fast-paced, customer-facing role with a high caseload and tight timescales.

You will undertake property surveys, assess feasibility, produce drawings/ specifications, manage delivery through to satisfactory completion and certification. The post requires strong technical judgement, the confidence to challenge what is reasonable and practicable and the ability to translate technical detail into plain English for residents and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out site surveys and feasibility assessments for adaptation works
  • Producing plans, drawings and specifications (CAD or Visio or similar)
  • Managing cases accurately, maintaining excellent records and handling a demanding caseload
  • Liaising with contractors and internal stakeholders, building strong working relationships
  • Reviewing contractor pricing, challenging errors and monitoring quality through to completion
  • Applying construction and housing legislation knowledge, including CDM and asbestos awareness
  • Identifying defects and recommending remedial works, informed by HHSRS principles
  • Reviewing and challenging third-party health and safety documentation where required

About you:

  • At least 2 years' experience undertaking surveys and producing plans/specs
  • Strong technical construction knowledge, with adaptation project exposure ideally
  • Confident communicator, able to convert technical language into plain English
  • Solid case management and high-accuracy admin/data entry capability
  • Comfortable challenging decisions professionally, including what is reasonable/practicable
  • Working knowledge of CDM regs, risk assessment, and asbestos awareness
  • Full driving licence, access to a vehicle, available for daily site visits
