We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team to work in schools across Sunderland. This role involves working closely with pupils who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), providing tailored support to help them access learning and achieve their full potential.
You may be supporting students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, including those with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated lessons
  • Implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Support pupils' emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • Encourage independence and positive engagement in learning
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to staff


Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND (school or care setting)
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) are desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
