SEN Specialist Teacher - Blackburn


Spencer Clarke Group is seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Specialist Teacher to join a welcoming school in Blackburn. This rewarding opportunity involves working within a small specialist provision supporting children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), primarily pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) who are non-verbal.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN professional who is committed to creating a positive, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with EHCPs.
  • Support and develop communication skills using appropriate strategies and interventions, including visual supports and alternative communication methods.
  • Create a safe, structured, and stimulating learning environment that promotes independence and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals to ensure pupils receive the highest level of support.
  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, adapting teaching approaches where necessary.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, carers, and other stakeholders to support pupil outcomes.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and maintain accurate records in line with school policies.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • Previous experience working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex SEN needs.
  • Strong understanding of EHCPs and person-centred approaches to learning.
  • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils and using communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC is desirable.
  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills.
  • A patient, compassionate, and adaptable approach to teaching.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
