School Caretaker

Location: St Helen's, Merseyside

Split shift: 6am-10:15am, 2:45pm-6pm (all year round, ASAP start)

Temporary-permanent role

We are seeking a reliable, proactive and hardworking School Caretaker to join a welcoming school in St Helens. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and secure environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

The successful candidate will initially be employed on a temporary basis, with the expectation that the role will become permanent for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening and securing the school site each day

  • Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs

  • Ensuring the premises are clean, safe and well-presented

  • Monitoring heating, lighting and other site systems

  • Setting up rooms and equipment for school activities and events

  • Reporting maintenance issues and liaising with contractors when required

  • Supporting the school in maintaining health and safety standards

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous caretaking, site management or maintenance experience (desirable)

  • Good practical DIY and repair skills

  • A strong understanding of health and safety procedures

  • The ability to work independently and manage their time effectively

  • A flexible and positive approach to work

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

    All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
