School Catering Assistant

Location: Prenton, Wirral
Pay Rate: £17.50-£18.00 per hour
Contract Type: Fixed-Term (12-Month Maternity Cover)
Start Date: September 2026

We are currently recruiting for a School Catering Assistant to join a friendly and supportive school in Prenton, Wirral. This is a 12-month maternity cover position, offering a fantastic opportunity to become part of a hardworking catering team within a busy school environment.

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday
• 11:00am - 1:45pm
• Term time only

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation and serving of school meals
• Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness
• Washing up and cleaning kitchen equipment and work areas
• Setting up and clearing the dining hall
• Supporting the catering team to ensure an efficient lunchtime service
• Following food safety and health and safety procedures at all times

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Previous catering, kitchen, or food service experience (school experience is desirable but not essential)
• A Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
• A positive, friendly, and team-focused attitude
• The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Good communication skills and a strong work ethic

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
