Interim Transport Lead
Location: South East
Rate: £500 per day
Contract: 6 - months
Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a public sector organisation in South East England to appoint an Interim Transport Lead to provide operational leadership across transport strategy and delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility across public transport, active travel, road safety and the delivery of major and minor highway works.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary transport team and oversee key programmes including signals, street lighting, highway structures, and the council's engagement with external transport partners and providers.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead development and delivery of transport strategies including active and sustainable travel, public transport and road safety.
- Provide operational input into the Local Transport Plan and associated supplementary strategies
- Oversee procurement and delivery of major and minor highways works contracts
- Manage programmes for street lighting maintenance and modernisation
- Manage traffic signals maintenance, upgrades, and new scheme delivery
- Oversee maintenance and improvement of highway structures, including bridges
- Lead the organisation's responsibilities for Public Rights of Way
- Stakeholder management with partners, providers, and wider government bodies
- Budget management across revenue and capital programmes
About you:
- Strong UK local authority, transport and highways leadership experience
- Track record delivering transport strategy and complex infrastructure/major works
- Experience managing highways-related contracts and programmes (works, signals, lighting, structures)
- Confident leading teams and managing budgets and performance
