Contract: 6 months

Spencer Clarke Group are recruiting for an experienced Building Surveyor to join a Local Authority housing service, supporting a responsive repairs, voids and minor works function.

This is a hands-on role focused on diagnosing building defects (including damp and mould), scoping works, supporting disrepair activity, and ensuring contractor delivery meets quality, compliance, and customer standards.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead a defect diagnostic service, including damp and mould cases, from inspection through to resolution
• Undertake inspections across a domestic rented housing portfolio, identifying non-compliance, fabric failure, and quality issues
• Produce scopes of works, specifications, and reports, and oversee delivery through to completion
• Support and help manage disrepair cases, timelines, and evidence, including court attendance as required
• Manage or support programmes of stock condition surveys, asset data, and lifecycle planning
• Oversee contractor performance, resolve issues/disputes, and ensure adherence to policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including Building Regulations and CDM, and maintain accurate property system records
• Support delivery of property strategies including elements linked to decarbonisation / energy efficiency requirements

About you:

• Strong background in building surveying across housing repairs, maintenance, or local authority/social housing environments
• Proven ability to diagnose defects and translate findings into clear scopes and actionable plans
• Working knowledge of health and safety requirements and CDM regulations
• Confident working with stakeholders including tenants, contractors, and internal services
• Membership of RICS / CIOB / CABE
