Tribunals and Mediation Officer

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced SEND Tribunals and Mediation Officer to effectively manage SEND Tribunal appeals and disputes relating to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Working as part of a local authority team in London, the SEND Tribunal and Mediation Officer will attend resolution meetings in an attempt to settle disputes without the need for a formal tribunal wherever possible.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of current SEN legislation and experience in representing local authorities at SEND Tribunals.
  • Proven ability to manage time efficiently to ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively to achieve the most positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Collate information to assist the Local Authority in resolving disputes related to special educational needs support arrangements.
  • Represent the Local Authority by preparing for and attending tribunal hearings.
  • Gather and report on data relating to numbers of mediations and tribunals, outcomes and follow up actions.

Skills required:

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks to meet legal deadline dates.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to resolve conflicts through mediation and negotiation.
