An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Accountant to join GM Police in Manchester on a Contract Basis.

We are looking to recruit an ambitious and high performing trainee accountant who will play their part in helping Greater Manchester Police to become a top class police force.

About The Role

The finance team are constantly seeking to improve the services we deliver to our command team and to budget holders across the force.


The successful candidate will be able to develop and adapt through this period of change and improvement.

You will assist in the provision of high quality financial services throughout Greater Manchester Police and contribute to the development of those services.

The main aspects of the role are to:

  • Prepare timely and high quality financial information for line managers, budget holders and leadership teams across the force.
  • Work with budget holders to prepare financial forecasts and commentaries on current and anticipated levels of income and expenditure; and to identify pressures against meeting budget targets.
  • Work with team members to consolidate financial forecasts and summarise key issues for high-level financial review meetings.
  • Understand reporting hierarchies and to create a financial system coding structures which meets the reporting needs of leadership teams.
  • Provide support to produce accurate budget models for key areas of income and expenditure; helping to produce the annual budget for the force.
  • Reconcile the financial system ledgers to supporting information; investigating and resolving any discrepancies found.

An ambitious trainee accountant will wish to study towards achieving a recognised professional accountancy qualification.


We will provide support through the provision of study materials, payment of exam fees, and allowing additional leave to sit exams.

Requirements

As with any financial role, you must be capable of working under pressure and demonstrate flexibility to meet tight deadlines throughout the financial year.

Candidates invited to interview will be able to clearly demonstrate in their application

• Knowledge of either budget preparation or the production of year-end financial accounts.
• Experience of management or financial accounting
• Experience of using computerised financial or administrative systems.
