Job Title: Interim Senior Surveyor

Location: Somerset

Duration: 3-months ongoing

Rate: Inside IR35 – Circa £350 per day (Negotiable DOE)

 

Our client, a local authority in Somerset, is seeking an experienced Interim Senior Surveyor. This role is crucial in ensuring the maintenance and improvement of the council’s Commercial property portfolio (mostly retail) through condition surveys, project management, and the specification of mechanical and electrical systems. The successful candidate will contribute to planned maintenance programmes and manage minor capital projects up to £2 million.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive condition surveys and provide detailed reports on the state of council properties.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a planned maintenance programme.
  • Manage and specify minor capital projects with a maximum budget of £1-2 million. Responsibilities include seeking planning (including Listed Building Consent) and building control consent, awarding, and managing build contracts.
  • Oversee responsive and remedial repairs by appointing contractors, specifying the necessary repairs, and obtaining any required consents.
  • Provide specific advice, calculations, and specifications for the replacement and renewal of mechanical and electrical systems, including their supply to new capital projects.
  • Specify, award, and manage contracts for the supply of new mechanical and electrical systems for new construction projects.
  • Advise on and calculate replacement systems to enable bidding for Public Sector Decarbonisation funds and contribute to Net Zero targets.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in Surveying, Construction, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in conducting condition surveys and preparing reports.
  • Proven experience in project management, particularly with minor capital projects up to £2 million.
  • Strong understanding of planning and building control processes, including Listed Building Consent.
  • Experience in managing responsive and remedial repairs, including appointing and overseeing contractors.
  • Expertise in mechanical and electrical systems, including specification, replacement, and renewal.
  • Familiarity with the specification, contract award, and management of new mechanical and electrical systems for construction projects.
  • Knowledge of public sector decarbonisation initiatives and Net Zero targets.
