Senior Ecologist

Location: South West
Rate: £50 Per hour DOE
Working Pattern: Fully Remote
Contract: 6 - Months

Spencer Clarke Group are working with a Local Authority to appoint a Senior Ecologist to provide specialist ecological input to a busy planning function during a temporary peak in workload.

This is a development management focused role, reviewing planning applications and ensuring robust, proportionate ecological advice that supports lawful, timely determinations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing ecological surveys and impact assessments for a range of planning applications including major and EIA development
  • Advising on protected species, licensing considerations, and appropriate mitigation and enhancement
  • Reviewing and advising on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) calculations and proposals
  • Recommending planning conditions, obligations, and where appropriate, reasons for refusal
  • Liaising with planning officers, developers and ecological consultants to provide clear, timely advice

About you:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Ecology, Environmental Science, or similar
  • Strong working knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy guidance
  • Proven experience reviewing ecological reports in a planning context
  • Confidence advising on mitigation, compensation and BNG
  • Able to manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision
