School Cook / Chef - September Start

Location: Wirral (Secondary School)
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 2:30pm (7 paid hours per day with a 30-minute unpaid break)
Pay: £18.00-£20.00 per hour (depending on experience)

We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming secondary school for an experienced School Cook/Chef to join their catering team from September.

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with school catering experience who is confident managing both food preparation and the essential food safety administration required within a busy school kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook nutritious, high-quality meals for students and staff.
  • Ensure the kitchen operates in line with all food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
  • Complete all Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) documentation and maintain accurate records.
  • Carry out daily administration, including:
    • Temperature monitoring and recording.
    • Cleaning schedules and compliance documentation.
    • Food safety records.
  • Manage and monitor pupil allergy requirements, ensuring meals are prepared safely and in accordance with dietary needs.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation and food safety throughout the kitchen.
  • Work effectively as part of the wider school team.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience working as a cook or chef, ideally within a school or similar catering environment.
  • Good knowledge of Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) procedures.
  • Experience maintaining food safety records and compliance documentation.
  • Understanding of allergen management and special dietary requirements.
  • Holds (or is willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS check.
  • Reliable, organised and able to work independently.
