SEND Teaching Assistant - Mainstream Schools


Location: Blackpool

Spencer Clarke Group are working with a number of mainstream schools across Blackpool who are looking for SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional needs.
This role is ideal for someone who has experience supporting children or young people with SEND, either in a school, care, youth work, residential, nursery or support setting. You do not necessarily need a formal Teaching Assistant qualification, but you will need to be patient, reliable and confident supporting pupils who may need additional help throughout the school day.

The role


As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you may be supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups or within the wider classroom. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to help pupils access learning, manage routines and feel included in school life.
You may be supporting pupils with needs such as:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • SEMH
  • Speech, language and communication needs
  • Learning difficulties
  • Sensory needs
  • Emotional regulation and behaviour support

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with learning activities
  • Helping pupils stay focused and engaged
  • Providing 1:1 or small group support
  • Supporting pupils with routines and transitions
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour
  • Working with teaching staff to create a calm and supportive learning environment
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Willing to follow guidance from teachers and SENCOs
  • Passionate about helping children feel supported and included

Relevant experience may include:

  • School-based SEND support
  • Care or support work
  • Youth work
  • Residential childcare
  • Nursery or early years experience
  • Psychology, education or childhood studies background
  • Personal experience supporting children with additional needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
