Payroll Officer - Interim
Spencer Clarke Group are working closely with a Local Authority in West Yorkshire to appoint an Interim Payroll Officer to support the delivery of a busy payroll service within Revenues, Benefits and Payroll.
This is a hands-on payroll role focused on accurate and timely processing, employee record maintenance and providing payroll advice across a high-volume public sector environment.

The Role
The successful candidate will support the payroll function, ensuring payroll activity is processed accurately and in line with strict deadlines, relevant legislation and internal controls.
Key responsibilities:
· Processing payroll changes including salaries, increments, pay awards, expenses, allowances and overpayments.
· Supporting pay to gross and gross to net payroll processing.
· Maintaining accurate employee records across IT and manual systems.
· Providing advice and guidance to employees and managers on payroll queries.
· Supporting over payment recovery in line with agreed policies.
· Using SAP in a payroll context.
· Assisting with improvements to payroll systems, processes and procedures.
· Supporting managers with pay-related Conditions of Service queries.
About You
You will ideally have:
· Previous payroll experience within a busy payroll environment.
· Strong understanding of gross to net payroll calculations, statutory deductions and HMRC requirements.
· Experience using SAP payroll or similar payroll systems.
· Good communication skills, with confidence advising employees and managers.
· Local Authority or wider public sector payroll experience would be desirable.
