About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. You will help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where students can build confidence, develop coping strategies, and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students
- Support pupils in managing emotions and behaviour effectively
- Assist in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions
- Promote engagement, resilience, and independence
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents/carers
- Help maintain a calm, safe, and supportive classroom environment
- Monitor and record student progress and wellbeing
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to remain resilient in challenging situations
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
- Relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare, psychology, or youth work (desirable but not essential)
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
