Family Support Worker - Pre Birth Team

We are currently working in partnership with a local authority client in the Durham area to recruit an experienced Family Support Worker to join their Pre-Birth Team.


As a Family Support Worker within the Pre-Birth Team, you will work closely with expectant parents, vulnerable families and partner agencies to identify needs and deliver support at the earliest opportunity.


Using a strengths-based and whole-family approach, you will support families to make positive changes, reduce risks and access services that promote safety, wellbeing and positive outcomes for both parents and their unborn child.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with expectant parents and families to assess support needs and identify potential risks.
  • · Develop and implement outcome-focused support plans, ensuring families receive the appropriate early intervention services.
  • · Provide practical and emotional support to families throughout the pre-birth period.
  • · Liaise effectively with social workers, health professionals, midwives and other partner agencies to coordinate support.
  • · Maintain accurate case records, reports and assessments in line with local authority requirements.


Key Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people or families within a support, early help, safeguarding or social care setting.
  • Knowledge of child development, safeguarding procedures and early intervention approaches.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable families and working within a multi-agency environment.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with families whilst providing appropriate support and challenge.
  • Strong organisational, assessment and record-keeping skills, with experience using case management systems.


Contract Length: 3-6 months with a view to extend to an ongoing contract.
Pay Rate: £16.08 PAYE
Working pattern - 37 hours per week.
