Director of Regeneration & Planning (Interim)
Location: London, Hybrid
Rate: £800 per day
Contract: 3-4 Days per week, 6-months initially
An exciting senior interim opportunity has arisen with a London local authority for an experienced place-making leader to drive planning, regeneration and economic growth across the borough.
You will lead a sizeable multi-disciplinary service spanning Strategic Planning, Development Management (including enforcement), Building Control, Regeneration and Economic Development, aligning investment and delivery to improve outcomes for residents, town centres and the wider local economy.
Responsibilities include
- Lead borough-wide place-making, regeneration and growth priorities across planning, regeneration and economic development
- Oversee strategic planning activity including the emerging Local Plan, associated strategies, masterplans and development briefs
- Drive performance and customer service improvements across Development Management, validation and enforcement
- Provide strategic leadership of Building Control, including emerging requirements linked to the Building Safety Act
- Lead collaboration with residents, members, partners and developers to deliver design-led development and regeneration outcomes
- Oversee the use of CIL and s106 (plus external funding) to maximise community benefit and support delivery
About You
- Senior leadership experience across planning, regeneration, place-making and/or economic development within a comparably complex organisation
- Strong track record leading transformational change, performance improvement and service planning
- Confident operating in a politically-led environment with excellent stakeholder management and governance awareness
- Evidence of inclusive leadership and culture change in a challenging financial context
- Good understanding of investment, delivery models and funding levers (including s106/CIL)
- Relevant degree/membership of a professional body
