Interim Accountant

Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a Combined Authority in North Yorkshire with the appointment of an Interim Accountant.

This is a technically focused finance role, supporting balance sheet control, financial reporting, treasury, VAT, reserves, grant accounting and finance system improvements - The postholder will play a key role in ensuring reconciliations, controls and statutory reporting are accurate, robust and audit ready.

• Rate: £31.72 PAYE per hour

• Contract: Interim 3-6 month (possible extention)

• Working pattern: TBC (1/2 days per week)

• Location Northallerton

The Role

• Lead balance sheet control, ensuring reconciliations are accurate, complete and audit ready.

• Support technical accounting compliance in line with CIPFA requirements.

• Manage reserves balances and funding sources, ensuring clear reporting and alignment with financial planning.

• Oversee organisational cashflow, banking and investments.

• Prepare treasury reporting for senior leaders and committees.

• Own VAT returns, government submissions and regulatory reporting.

• Line manage and support an Accounts Assistant.

About You

• CCAB-qualified accountant, AAT-qualified accounting technician or equivalent.

• Strong technical accounting, reconciliations and financial controls experience.

• Confident supporting financial statements, audit processes and regulatory reporting.

• Experience across VAT, treasury, reserves, grants and income accounting would be highly beneficial.

• CIPFA qualification desirable.

• Local Authority or Combined Authority experience desirable.
