Spencer Clarke Group Raises a Mug in Support of Macmillan09 Feb, 20231 - 2 minutes
Last Friday, we were thrilled to raise a mug to join the annual coffee morning event to raise a whopping £145 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The money raised helps fund Macmillan services to make sure people with cancer can get the physical, emotional and financial support they need during a period of great difficulty and distress.
On the menu for our 20 strong team was a selection of sandwiches, croissants, pastries, cakes and coffee.
Since launched in 1990, the coffee morning’s have raised over £290 million, raising £10 million of that in 2020.
Macmillan hopes to raise even more in 2021 after seeing a huge fall in fundraising due to the impact of Covid-19.
In mid September, Macmillan revealed that they were facing a 71% drop in income in 2021 after a drop off in sign ups and urged the public to do whatever it takes to fund its vital support ahead of what could be a “tsunami of demand” this autumn.
The disruption caused by the pandemic means that its services remain high but the income remains low; a £40 million drop in income puts nearly 200,000 people with cancer at risk of missing out on care from Macmillan nurses.
“The majority of people have been touched by cancer in one way or another so it is really important that we help to support charities like Macmillan,” said Mike Shorrock, Managing Director of Spencer Clarke Group.
Director, Michael Spencer, added, “The Macmillan Coffee Morning is a great way for the whole office to come together and do something positive for an important cause.”
