Senior Communications Officer

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking a Senior Communications Officer for a local authority client in East London.

In this role, you will lead strategic, high-impact communications, managing campaigns, advising senior leaders, and delivering compelling content that engages residents and enhances the council's reputation.

Duties:

• Oversee a team of officers, plan and deliver strategic campaigns, and act as the communications lead for a council directorate.
• Produce high-quality, engaging content across media, digital and print channels to support council priorities.
• Offer professional communications guidance to senior officers and members, including media handling and crisis comms.
• Use research, insight and evaluation to shape campaigns, grow audiences, and continuously improve communication outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate will have the following skills / experience:

• Proven experience leading communications teams and delivering strategic, multi-channel campaigns.
• Skilled in media relations, social media strategy, and creating content for diverse platforms and audiences.
• Experience working with senior leaders, partners, and stakeholders to support organisational goals.
• Confident using data, research, and evaluation to inform planning and measure impact.

What's on offer:

Salary: £217+ per day

*may negotiate higher for exceptional candidates, based on experience*

Contract type: 6 months minimum, with a high likelihood of extension

Hours: Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week
