SEND Tribunal Officer

£450 per day

3 month initial contract

Fully remote working - South West Local Authority

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced SEND Tribunal Officer to take responsibility for managing and coordinating a Local Authority's response to appeals and hearings brought before the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST).

The SEND Tribunal Officer will work closely with parents, schools and professionals across education, health and social care to gather evidence, prepare statements and resolve disputes relating to the Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) of children and young people with SEND.

Essential Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Experience of preparing evidence and representing the Local Authority at formal tribunal hearings.
  • Skilled in negotiation and mediation with the ability to resolve conflicts.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Lead and attend mediation and pre-tribunal meetings.
  • Facilitate communication between schools and families to resolve disputes without the need for formal tribunal where possible.
  • Evaluate the outcomes of SEND Tribunal hearings to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.

Skills required:

  • Ability to prioritise tasks effectively and maintain clear records.
  • Excellent negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to produce clear written and verbal communication.
