Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant - SLD School (Primary & Secondary)
Location: Chorley
Start Date: September 2025 (or sooner where possible)
Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Full-time (term time only)
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs? Do you have experience as a carer, support worker, or working with individuals with additional needs? We're recruiting for a number of SEND Teaching Assistant positions at a specialist school in Chorley, catering for SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) across both primary and secondary phases.

About the Role:


This is a non-qualified position ideal for anyone with a background in care, support work, or hands-on experience with individuals with SEN. The school provides high-quality education and care for pupils with SLD and complex needs. Some students are non-verbal and require more sensory-based, nurturing support; others follow a semi-formal curriculum and benefit from structured routines and communication development.
You will work as part of an outstanding, well-established team who provide training, mentoring, and a supportive environment for staff at all levels.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Supporting pupils with SLD and associated needs on a 1:1 or small group basis

  • Assisting with personal care and communication for non-verbal students

  • Helping deliver engaging activities for semi-formal learners

  • Supporting the teacher with classroom tasks and daily routines

  • Using sensory approaches and assistive technology to aid learning

  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:


  • Experience working with SEN (either professionally or personally)

  • A background in care, support work, or similar roles is highly valued

  • A patient, resilient and compassionate approach

  • A genuine interest in supporting children with complex needs

  • The ability to work effectively within a team
