SEND Senior Appeals Officer

£400 per day

3 month initial contract, likely to be extended

Fully remote working

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced Senior Appeals Officer to manage and coordinate a Local Authority's response to SEND appeals and tribunals, ensuring that all cases are handled effectively and within statutory timescales.

The Senior Appeals Officer will work closely children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), their parents, schools and partner agencies, participating in mediation and resolution sessions to avoid the need for formal tribunal where possible.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of current SEND legislation including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
  • Proven experience in representing local authorities at SEND tribunals.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with parents, schools and multi-agency partners.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Represent the Local Authority by preparing for and attending tribunal hearings.
  • Manage a caseload of appeals lodged by parents or young people.
  • Prepare the Local Authority's response, gather and review evidence and coordinate multi-agency contributions.

Skills required:

  • Highly effective written and spoken communication.
  • Skilled in resolving conflicts through mediation and negotiation.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a large caseload of complex appeals, meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
