SEND Officer

Up to £300 per day

3 month initial contract

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced SEND Officer to successfully manage a caseload of young people in Year 9 and above with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

The SEND Officer will work within the Post 14 team of a South West Local Authority, monitoring the ongoing provision and ensuring the best possible outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Essential Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience of working as a SEND Case Officer within a Local Authority SEND Team.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory guidance, particularly the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Significant experience of drafting, reviewing and maintaining Education, Health and Care Plans.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Act as the named officer for a caseload of young people with SEND, ensuring that the provision outlined in the EHCP is being delivered effectively and within the statutory timeframe.
  • Facilitate and oversee internal procedures to secure placement and funding approval.
  • Attend and process annual reviews to ensure that needs are being met and decide whether any changes to the EHCP are required.

Skills required:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with families and professionals.
  • Able to solve problems and make fair and informed decisions based on evidence from assessments.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and prioritise work to meet deadlines.
