Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced SEND Complaints & Tribunals Officer to manage disputes and complaints relating to the provision for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a South East Local Authority.
The SEND Complaints & Tribunals Officer will work closely with parents, carers, schools and professionals to settle disputes through effective communication and early resolution where possible.
Essential Requirements:
- Proven experience in handling and resolving SEND appeals and complaints.
- Strong understanding of current SEND legislation and processes, particularly the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice 2015.
- Previous experience of representing the Local Authority at SEND Tribunals, including preparing cases and attending hearings.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Monitor and analyse tribunal cases, complaints and outcomes to contribute to service improvement plans.
- Manage and resolve SEND-related complaints, lead mediation and early dispute resolution and act as a key contact for families during these processes.
- Represent the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings to defend proposed service provision.
Skills required:
- Strong judgement and decision-making skills with a proven ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Highly effective in both written and spoken communication.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet strict deadlines.
