SEND Assessment and Review Officer

£180 per day

3 month initial contract

Hybrid working - 2 days per week in office - South East London Local Authority

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced SEND Assessment and Review Officer to implement and coordinate the statutory Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment process for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a London local authority.

The SEND Assessment and Review Officer will work in partnership with young people, families and senior staff across a number of schools to ensure that provision is appropriate and effective and the local authority meets its statutory duties.

Essential Requirements:

• Extensive experience of working within SEND for a local authority.
• Secure knowledge of relevant legislation including the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Children and Families Act 2014.
• Strong understanding of the statutory EHCP assessment process and associated legal timelines.

Duties include but not limited to:

• Manage the full process of Education, Health and Care Needs assessment and reviews across all ages from 0-25.
• Produce high-quality, person-centred Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in co-production with parents and children/ young people.
• Chair EHC planning and annual review meetings, ensuring they remain outcome focused and fully compliant with the SEND Code of Practice.

Skills required:

• Ability to challenge and support schools, professionals and families to reduce and where possible prevent legal challenge against the local authority.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce high-quality formal documents.
• High level of organisational and time management skills to successfully manage a complex caseload.
