SEMH Teaching Assistant - Full-Time | September Start | Rochdale
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Do you have experience supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs or challenging behaviour?
We are recruiting for a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Rochdale from September. This role is initially offered through an education agency, with the opportunity to become a longer-term placement for the right candidate.
The Role
Working as part of a dedicated and supportive team, you will provide both classroom and pastoral support to students who require additional guidance to achieve their full potential. Every day is different, and you'll play a vital role in helping pupils build confidence, develop positive relationships, and re-engage with education.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
- Assist pupils with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges and barriers to learning.
- Promote positive behaviour using consistent and restorative approaches.
- Support teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
- Encourage students' emotional wellbeing, resilience and personal development.
- Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or within an alternative provision, SEND or youth work setting.
- Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
- A calm, resilient and patient approach.
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
- The ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Team Teach or other positive behaviour management training is advantageous but not essential.
