SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary PRU

Are you passionate about supporting children who need additional emotional, social, and behavioural support to succeed in education?

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Longsight from September. This is a full-time role supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage positively with learning and develop essential life skills.

The Role

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children who may display challenging behaviours.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and interventions.
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in:

  • SEMH or SEND settings.
  • Primary education.
  • Youth work.
  • Residential care.
  • Mental health support services.
  • Support worker or key worker roles.
  • Behaviour mentoring.

Team Teach training is desirable, but not essential. Full training and ongoing professional development will be provided for the right candidate.

  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner.
  • Be committed to supporting vulnerable children to achieve their potential.
