Secondary School Teaching Assistant
Preston and Surrounding Areas

We are recruiting Teaching Assistants to work in secondary schools across Preston and the surrounding areas from September 2026. Opportunities are available in a variety of settings, including schools in Fulwood, Penwortham, Bamber Bridge, Longridge, Leyland and other nearby areas.


These roles include both general classroom support positions and dedicated 1:1 support roles for pupils with additional needs. Whether you have previous school-based experience or have worked with children and young people in another setting, we would be keen to hear from you.


The Role

  • Supporting teachers in delivering lessons and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Providing general classroom support across a range of subjects.
  • Working on a 1:1 basis with students who require additional support.
  • Assisting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to access learning.
  • Encouraging student engagement, confidence and progress.
  • Supporting students' social, emotional and academic development.


What We're Looking For

  • Experience working in a school setting, or
  • Experience working with children or young people in a relevant role such as youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, mentoring, residential care or community support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, supportive and adaptable approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.


Desirable Experience

  • Supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Experience delivering 1:1 interventions or targeted support.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
