Spencer Clarke Group are searching for a Rehabilitation Officer (Visual Impairment) on behalf of a client within the Leeds area, you will work hybrid when not on visits and writing up reports. In this role you will support people who are blind or have a visual impairment to stay safe, confident and independent in their daily lives. You will work under the general direction of the disability team manager and supervision from the senior rehabilitation officer.

What you will do:

  • You will assess the needs of visually impaired adults, young people and children.
  • You will manage an allocated caseload of service users who have a visual impairment and with supervision regularly monitor and review the to ensure that the services are being used effectively.
  • For more complex case work you may work jointly from time to time with the senior rehabilitation officer.
  • Work within a safeguarding framework to manage risks where a service user has experiences or is like to experience significant harm.
  • Responsible for teaching of outdoor and indoor orientation and mobility skills, which includes the relevant specialist mobility aids.

What we're looking for:

  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to own vehicle.
  • Experience within assessing the needs of a visually impaired people in a variety of settings.
  • Substantial knowledge along with understanding of a range of eye conditions and their effect on psychical and mental functioning.
  • Have the ability to work with people who have dual sensory impairment and multiple health and mobility difficulties.


When applying for this role please be aware that it is essential that you hold one of the following qualifications within rehabilitation work. BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation Visual Impairment / Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Visual Impairment Rehabilitation) / Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation (Visual Impairment) / Diploma in Higher Education Rehabilitation Studies / Certificate in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment) / Dual Qualification of Technical Officer and Mobility Officer or equivalent.
