Interim Principal Development Surveyor
Location: East Midlands - Hybrid
Contract: 6 months
Rate: £400-500 per day
Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced Principal Development Surveyor to lead a professional team delivering development, disposal, and valuation activities for a diverse portfolio of assets and projects. This is a hands-on leadership role with strategic responsibilities, providing expert property advice, progressing disposals from inception to completion, and supporting the Council's annual asset valuation programme.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of professional surveyors in delivering asset reviews, development, disposal, and valuation activities.
  • Act as the primary liaison with developers, agents, prospective purchasers, and other stakeholders.
  • Undertake complex commercial negotiations and prepare valuations.
  • Support the review and rationalisation of the commercial portfolio, identifying opportunities for asset disposal, improved asset management, and revenue enhancement.
  • Commission and oversee work from external consultants.
  • Undertake asset acquisitions for various purposes and contribute to capital and revenue forecasting.
  • Produce reports, briefing notes, and business cases as required.
  • Ensure all property within the portfolio is safe and compliant.
  • Provide significant professional support to the asset valuation programme and undertake ad hoc valuations.
About You
  • MRICS qualified with post-qualification experience and RICS Registered Valuer status.
  • Proven track record in valuation practices, asset development, disposals, commercial negotiations, and property law.
  • Significant experience delivering property development projects, from feasibility assessment to completion.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing professional teams and driving performance.
  • Skilled in procuring and monitoring contracts, contractors, and service providers.
  • Able to analyse complex property issues and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Politically astute with excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong financial acumen with proven budget management experience.
  • Willingness and ability to visit and inspect properties as required.
