Principal Accountant
My client is a Local Authority in the North East who are looking to appoint a Principal Accountant on an Interim basis.
About the role:
Based in the North East (Hybrid):
The purpose of this role is to support the provision of a specialist financial management service through a range of accounting and financial reporting services which inform and support the decision-making requirements.
What's on offer:
- Rates: £180 - £400 per day inside IR35.
*Negotiable based on experience

- Contract type: Contract (37 hrs a week)
- Hours: 09:00 -17:00
Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for the technical financial aspects affecting the Council's companies including cash flow management, income, payments, banking and tax.
- Lead on the annual closedown of the Council's companies for specified area to trial balance position or statement of accounts as appropriate.
- Liaise with appointed external accountants / auditors to ensure production of final accounts in accordance with timeframes and required standards.
About you:
You will have the following experience:
Fully Qualified Accountant***
Able to develop knowledge or experience of or undertake:
- Business partnering for the areas of responsibility.
- Excellent analytical skills to work through complex matters, develop financial models, including scenario planning.
- Final accounts, budget preparation, cash flow management and budget monitoring.
- Grant claims and other financial returns.
