Lead SEND Complaints & Tribunals Officer
£450 per day

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced Lead SEND Complaints & Tribunals Officer to manage complex SEND appeals relating to the provision for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a South East Local Authority.
The Lead SEND Complaints & Tribunals Officer will provide key leadership and act as a source of expert advice to the Council and SEN Officers on all aspects of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST).
Essential Requirements:
- Significant experience in SEND case management, including managing a high case load of complex cases.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of current SEND legislation and statutory procedures, particularly the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice 2015.
- Strong knowledge of Appeals and Tribunals processes, a proven ability to resolve SEND appeals and complaints and proven experience of representing the Local Authority at hearings.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Work closely with parents, carers, schools and professionals to settle disputes through effective communication, strong negotiation and early resolution.
- Represent the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings to defend the appropriateness of proposed service provision.
- Provide support and coaching to the SEND Assessment and Monitoring Team on complex cases, helping EHCP Coordinators and Officers to achieve positive outcomes and reduce the Local Authority's risk of Tribunal appeals.
Skills required:
- Able to lead on complex casework by delivering effective mediation and strong negotiation.
- Highly effective in communicating complex and sensitive information clearly to a wide range of audiences.
- Strong organisational skills, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities.
