Interim Head of Contracts Management
Location: West of England
Contract: 6 Months Initially (Potential to Extend)
Rate: £500-600 Per day inside IR35
Our client, a local authority in the West of England, is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Contracts Management to lead and consolidate its approach to major contract management across the Economy & Environment Directorate.
This is a fantastic opportunity to shape and enhance the council's commercial and operational contract delivery strategy across a portfolio of services valued at £20m+ per annum.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the Contracts Management team
- Drive forward a consolidated, efficient approach to contracts management across the Economy & Environment Directorate.
- Take ownership of a range of high-value service contracts including:
- Highways & Traffic Management
- Street Cleansing
- Parks and Green Spaces
- Potentially Waste Management and SEN Transport
- Engage and collaborate with senior internal and external stakeholders to bring additional contracts into scope.
- Ensure value for money, performance management, and effective procurement processes are embedded across all contract areas.
- Report directly to the Director of Commercial Services, supporting broader commercial initiatives across the council.
Experience & Skills Required
- Proven leadership experience in contract and performance management within local government or large public sector organisations.
- Strong understanding of procurement and contract delivery in relevant sectors (e.g. highways, traffic, waste, transport, grounds maintenance).
- Track record of delivering contract consolidation, efficiency improvements, and effective supplier engagement.
- Ability to manage high-value, complex contracts and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Familiarity with local authority governance, procurement legislation, and contract compliance.
