Job Title: Interim Disrepair Surveyor

Location: Greater Manchester (Field-based with some remote working)
Contract: Interim - 6 Months ongoing
Rate: Circa £280 per day (Negotiable)
Our local authority client in the North West is seeking an experienced Interim Disrepair Surveyor to join their Housing team on a crucial interim assignment. This role plays a vital part in supporting the Council's response to housing disrepair claims and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory responsibilities.
You will be responsible for conducting inspections, preparing detailed expert reports, and where required, attending court as an expert witness. This is a highly autonomous role requiring strong surveying expertise and a sound understanding of the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Disrepair.
Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake inspections of residential properties in relation to housing disrepair claims.
  • Carry out joint inspections with legal representatives or opposing experts as required.
  • Prepare reports, including Part 35-compliant expert witness reports (desirable).
  • Advise on the extent of disrepair, remedial actions, liability, and associated costs.
  • Support the legal team with evidence and insight for ongoing and future cases.
  • Attend court when required as an expert surveyor to present findings.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of inspections, findings, and correspondence.
Essential Requirements
  • BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of housing disrepair cases and relevant legal protocols.
  • Understanding of the Disrepair Protocol and the role of expert evidence in legal claims.
  • Excellent report-writing skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly and objectively.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive cases professionally and confidently.
  • Previous experience working within a Local Authority or social housing setting.
Desirable
  • Experience preparing CPR Part 35 compliant expert witness reports.
  • Previous experience working within a Local Authority or social housing setting.
  • Familiarity with relevant housing standards and legislation, including the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018.
