  • About the Spencer Clarke Group x Active Lancashire school fundraising challenge.
  • 16 unique ways to fundraise in your school this Halloween.
  • Discover more about our education recruitment services.

Spooky season is a fang-tastic opportunity for schools to get creative in the classroom and put their spell-binding talents to the test.

When it comes to fundraising, Halloween also provides the perfect opportunity to put a uniquely terrifying twist on some money-making classics.

Whether you’re raising money as part of the Spencer Clarke Group x Active Lancashire fundraising challenge, which will see schools from across Lancashire compete to turn a £100 starter donation into as much money as possible, or you’re looking for ways to fundraise for a charity that means something special to your school, we’ve compiled 16 unique ways for your school to get involved this Halloween!

16 ways for your school to fundraise this Halloween

Our favourite ways for schools to fundraise during Halloween include:

  • Strike spooky with pumpkin bowling.
  • Host a fang-tastic football match.
  • Give your car a boo-tiful shine.
  • Create a mysterious ‘guess’ jar.
  • Dress up for a wicked walk.
  • Present a spook-tacular film night.
  • Practice your pumpkin power.
  • Host a creepy science spectacle.
  • Bake some terrifying treats.
  • Throw a scare-oke sing off.
  • Dress to ‘distress’.
  • Present a monster-mash dance off.
  • Creepy crawl a relay race.
  • Host a spine-chilling story night.
  • Organise a ghoulish games night.
  • Get scarily sporty with your own ‘ghoul-lympics’.

Strike spooky with pumpkin bowling

A fun and active way to get your classes fundraising for a good cause, pumpkin bowling combines the joy of ten-pin bowling with its very own spooky twist - pumpkins instead of bowling balls!

Involving your students in the set up of the game, such as choosing the pumpkins and decorating Halloween themed pins is a great way to encourage creativity and share responsibility.

You may wish to invite parents, guardians and Teachers to play alongside students and kindly ask them for a small contribution to take part. After all, who doesn’t want the chance to impress with a spooky strike or two!

Host a fang-tastic football match

A Halloween themed football match is the perfect opportunity to get your students active and fundraising in the process.

We love the idea of each team being dressed as a different creepy character, whether it be witches, ghosts or even a team full of Frankensteins running around the pitch.
You can raise team spirits by kindly asking for donations from participants and spectators and get the whole school involved. You might even want to let your students give themselves a spook-taclur team name and provide some tasty Halloween treats for half time.

Give your car a boo-tiful shine

Even if they’re not running around a football pitch, a Halloween themed car wash is a wicked way to get your students outdoors to raise money.

For those who want their car washed, asked for a kind donation towards your fundraising cause and if it’s for the Spencer Clarke Group x Active Lancashire fundraising challenge, don’t forget to give their car an extra boo-tiful shine.

Put a haunting twist on your car wash by dressing up for the occasion… We think vampires, zombies and skeletons will do the job well!

Create a mysterious ‘guess’ jar

A simple and fun way to get everyone guessing, a jar full of spell-binding sweets is a sure fire way to raise money.

Fill a jar full of Halloween treats and ask for donations from people who think they can guess how many sweets are in there. Closest guess wins the jar!

Ask school staff, students, parents and guardians to have a shot, you never know, the winner might even be kind enough to share.

Dress up for a wicked walk

Another excellent opportunity to encourage physical activity amongst your students, a fancy dress Halloween walk is our next fundraising idea.

Let students choose their freaky ‘fits and ask them to collect sponsorship to complete the activity.

Plan a route accessible for all and open the walk up to school staff, parents and guardians, the more people who take part, the more money you are likely to raise. Spread awareness of your challenge across your school website and social media pages and see how much you can raise in the process!

Present a Spook-tacular film night

Hosting a Halloween film night where guests pay a small fee to attend, is a fang-tastic way to fundraise during spooky season. Let your students choose a Halloween film, decorate to your hearts content and serve up some spooky snacks for a night your school won’t forget!

Practice your pumpkin power

Get your students involved in (safe) pumpkin carving and sell their spooky designs to take on the fundraising challenge. This fun activity provides a creative opportunity for students to show off their artistic flair and make money in the process. Why not host your own competition alongside our fundraising challenge to crown the spookiest design!

Host a creepy science spectacle

We all know science can be spooky so what better time of year to host your very own creepy science class? To fundraise you may wish to open your class up to members of your local community and hold this after school hours, charging spectators a set fee to take part.

Why not dress your hosts up as ‘mad scientists’ and demonstrate exciting experiments such as slime-making, glow in the dark ‘potions’ or creating mixtures that look like bubbling cauldrons. You could even include some creepy crawlies in your class to put an extra spooky spin on science.

Bake some terrifying treats

Who doesn’t love a bake sale? This Halloween, use this fundraising classic as an excuse to make some terrifying treats to sell at your school. From creepy cookies to mysterious muffins, the options are endless and a guaranteed way to raise money whilst treating your students, Teachers and school community in the process.

Throw a scare-oke sing off

From ‘Thriller’ to ‘Monster Mash’, Halloween has provided some musical classics over the years. We recommend using this to your fundraising advantage and throwing your very own ‘scare-oke’ night.

For Teachers wanting to put their vocals to the test, kindly ask for a small contribution to partake and for those there to cheer them along, ask for a contribution to spectate. You could make the night extra eerie by crowning ‘most petrifying performance’.

Dress to ‘distress’

Forget dress to impress, this Halloween, the spookier the better! Why not let your students spend a day in Halloween costume to fundraise for your cause?

Encourage your students to create the most spine-tingling outfit or for those who maybe can’t buy a new costume, provide your students the opportunity to get creative and make some fun Halloween accessories. Kindly ask parents and guardians for a small donation towards the dress-up day.

Present a monster-mash dance off

Another fun opportunity to get your students active, a ‘monster-mash’ dance off is a high-energy way to get everyone moving, laughing and raising money.

Whether you decorate your school hall, create costumes for the event or provide some spooky snacks, this is a guaranteed way to get your whole school in the Halloween spirit.

Creepy crawl a relay race

Want to spark some friendly competition? A Halloween themed relay race is a great way to encourage team work with the overall goal of beating the competition.

Put a spooky spin on things by setting up obstacles such as crawling under cobwebs or throwing a pumpkin between team members. This playful fundraising challenge is a creative way to encourage physical activity in your school and with spectators paying a fee to watch, an effective way to raise money.

Host a spine-chilling story night

A magical way to celebrate spooky season and fundraise, hosting a Halloween story night at your school is a great way to bring the school community together. Set the scene by decorating your classrooms or school hall and dig out some age appropriate Halloween tales to tell.

Invite Teachers, students, parents and guardians along and charge a small ticket fee to attend. You might even encourage guests to dress up and bring along some tasty treats for a little extra excitement.

Organise a ghoulish games night

From apple bobbing to blindfolded doughnut eating, there are so many fang-tastic traditional Halloween games. Why not host your own ghoulish games night and kindly ask participants to contribute money to your fundraising efforts to be eligible to play.

The opportunities for fun are endless and you could even create a Halloween treasure hunt with the winning team taking home a eerie-sistible prize.

Get scarily sporty with your own ‘ghoul-lympics’

A little like the ghoulish games idea but with less doughnuts and more exercise, a Halloween themed spin on a sports day or olympics event is a sure fire way to get your whole school community benefiting from physical activity.

From a broomstick relay event to a witchy wheelbarrow race, there are lots of traditional sports day activities you can put a terrifying twist on. Ask participants and spectators to contribute to reach your fundraising ghoul… sorry, we mean goal!
