Meet the Team - Shannon Hughes

We recently caught up with Compliance Supervisor, Shannon Hughes, to discover more about her career path so far and what advice she’d give to her younger self! 

How long have you worked at Spencer Clarke Group?

I started working for Spencer Clarke Group in February 2024 and I have been very welcomed since.

What does your role entail?

I work on the compliance team, helping consultants gather the documents and references they need. This is an important part of the recruitment process as we have to make sure all candidates are fully cleared before starting their new job. 

What do you love most about what you do?

I love to help other people and feel satisfied when a candidate's folder is fully compliant and signed off. 

What motivates you at work?

The environment I work in motivates me to do more and be more. Spencer Clarke Group has a great team of employees and every single one of us is recognised for our hard work and dedication which really encourages us to keep going.

How would you describe working at Spencer Clarke Group?

Spencer Clarke Group is a fun and motivating place to be yourself and achieve all the things you want to achieve. No two days are the same but the morale is always high! 

Tell us about your career path so far. 

I started out my compliance career in early 2023 and since then I have found a love for helping others and a satisfaction for completing folders. 

This motivates me each month and I’d love to build my way up the ladder, so when the opportunity became available to do this at Spencer Clarke Group, I snapped it up and I haven't looked back since.

How would your colleagues describe you?

I think that they would describe me as organised and hard working. I take a little while to come out of my shell but they’re peeling back the layers and seeing the fun side of me too! 

Where are we most likely to find you outside of work?

Outside of work, you’re most likely to find me with my family, either on a dog walk in the Lake District or spending time with my crazy nephews and niece who are all football obsessed. 

We are huge Manchester United fans and go to as many games as possible. I also enjoy city breaks and the theatre, my favourite show being Blood Brothers or Wicked.

Tell us something we’d never guess about you!

We show our dogs in dog shows such as Crufts and have been placed 1st in Best of Breed at Crufts 2024! I have a huge passion for healthy dog breeds.

What’s next for you at Spencer Clarke Group?

I’ve recently been promoted to Compliance Supervisor within my first 4 months of working at Spencer Clarke Group, which is an amazing achievement this early into my career. It shows my dedication and drive to help build the compliance team whilst ensuring the smooth running of this side of the business. I hope that I can bring more of that in the future!

What advice would you give to your young self?

Everything will work out, keep pushing and trying your best. Always show up.

Pictures of my family, chocolate and armbands.

Do you have any pets?

I have two dogs, both Bedlington Terriers.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can sing the whole of the 10 minute Taylor Swift song, All Too Well, word for word.

What animal is your spirit animal?

A Sea Lion because I love their little eyes!
