Meet the Team - John Shorrock

1-2 minutes

We recently caught up with Lead Consultant, John Shorrock, to discover how he has found the first few months since joining Spencer Clarke Group, what he loves most about the job and we delve into how he came about meeting Lady Gaga!

How long have you worked at Spencer Clarke Group?

I have worked here since August 2021 and I am absolutely loving it!

What markets do you specialise in?

I specialise in temporary appointments within the public sector in London.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love the constant challenge of working in a fast moving market - it keeps it very exciting!

I also love helping candidates to find career opportunities which they might not have secured without my help - I have only been here a few months but I have had so many lovely cards and gifts from my candidates thanking me for my help - it’s very rewarding.

What motivates you at work?

I am motivated by making sure that my candidates are in a job role which they love and are happy in. I also continually supply professional development to my candidates so they can be the best they can be.

I am also motivated by fulfilling my obligations and responsibilities to make sure that the public sector is staffed well with suitable candidates.

How would you describe working at Spencer Clarke Group?

I would describe it as a thrill; being a part of a high energy team is one of the best things about working here. The team - including the work doggies - are amazing!

It’s very fast paced and tense but in a really good way - there’s always something to be doing and the days just fly by!

There’s a big focus here on personal progression which is a nice change to other agencies where I have worked; you are actively encouraged to succeed which is unique.

Everyone in the team is willing each other to succeed and they are always happy to provide advice and help to get you there. Additional help and assistance is always on hand if you ask!

Tell us about your career path so far.

In my career so far, I have worked in bars and managed Jamie Oliver restaurants.

Working in hospitality has set me up with transferable skills to help me succeed in recruitment. Putting people front and centre is the key to success and I can’t wait to continue helping more candidates - this is just the beginning!

How would your colleagues describe you?

They would say I am energetic, I never miss a party, I’m always smiling and a bit weird but in a good way!

Where are we most likely to find you outside of work?

You would find me at One Eight Six in Manchester - I love the live music there!

Tell us something we’d never guess about you!

I once applied for The Apprentice and got through to the final rounds but they said I was too logical for TV!

What’s next for you at Spencer Clarke Group?

I have my sights set on dominating my market space. Following a fast and successful start, this is just the next stepping stone in my journey as a recruiter.
