Christmas is a time for giving and what better way to support a cause close to your school’s heart than to fundraise for them. Whether you’re supporting a charity of your choice or taking part in the Spencer Clarke Group x Active Lancashire School Fundraising Challenge, the festive season is the perfect opportunity to get your creative juices flowing and make some money in the process.

If you’re looking for festive ways to fundraise, we’ve got you covered!

What is the Spencer Clarke Group x Active Lancashire School Fundraising Challenge?

Teaming up with Active Lancashire, we’re excited to invite schools from across Lancashire to take part in a fun-filled fundraising challenge. Our challenge will take place from Monday 15th September until Friday 12th December 2025 and is designed to support and enhance the educational opportunities available for young people throughout the county.

Twenty schools from across the county will compete to raise as much money as possible, from a £100 starter donation provided by Spencer Clarke Group. Any funds raised by each school can be put towards educational days out, new equipment, extracurricular activities or special events.

At the close of our challenge, each participating school will keep 50% of the funds they have raised. The other half will be reinvested for the funding of places on Active Lancashire's Active Learning Zone’s Workplace Health Champions Course - a great way to promote staff development in schools!

10 ways for your school to fundraise this Christmas

Our favourite ways for schools to fundraise during Christmas include:

  • Warm up with winter sports.
  • Santa dash for donations.
  • Get creative at Christmas.
  • Become a Christmas star.
  • Show off your magical moves.
  • Spread festive cheer through song.
  • Complete a merry makeover.
  • Host a festive bake sale.
  • Organise a festive film night.
  • Throw a ‘12 days of sport’ challenge.

Warm up with winter sports

Sports day isn’t just for summer! Why not make the most out of indoor sports facilities to host your very own winter sports event. You could give this an ice-cold twist by competing in events such as indoor sled races or simply compete in some sports day classics such as an egg and spoon race.

Raise money by kindly asking for contributions from spectators and ask your students to collect sponsorship before taking on the challenge.

Santa dash for donations

Sticking with the Christmas theme, Santa dashes are popular ways to have a laugh, get active, spread joy and raise money. Advertise your event, encourage participants to dress up in festive fashion and gather sponsorships from those taking part.

We advise making your event more inclusive by encouraging people to walk, jog or run and creating a route that is wheelchair accessible.

Get creative at Christmas

Make fundraising fun and festive through Christmas arts and crafts that can be sold at a Christmas fair. Seasonal art, Christmas cards, baked goods and hand-made decorations will go down a treat, can be personalised for an extra special touch and allow students the chance to get creative.

Become a Christmas star

Think you have the next Lizzo or Harry Styles hiding amongst your pupils? Well, a Christmas talent show is one way to find out. Kindly ask for a contribution from spectators towards your fundraising efforts, find a hostess with the mostess and let the show begin… Whether it’s singing, magic, dancing or juggling, who knows what talents will be discovered!

Show off your magical moves

It’s not just your students who might be itching to show off their skills! A sure fire way to succeed with your fundraising is to get your fellow school staff busting some moves.

Why not challenge your year group colleagues or a ‘rival’ teaching department to a dance battle? We’re sure everyone would love to see drama and history go head to head under the spotlight.

Spread festive cheer through song

Maybe dancing isn’t your thing? Why not spread the festive cheer through singing some Christmas classics instead! A festive and entertaining way to fundraise, open mics are popular ways for people to showcase their talent and entertain an audience.

You don’t even need to stick to song - poetry recitals and comedy evenings are also fun ways to encourage participants.

Complete a merry makeover

Whether you dust off your Christmas jumper or go head to toe in a new festive fit, a Christmas dress up day is a jolly way to raise money and get your students in the holiday spirit.

You could even go a step further and host a costume contest for the best dressed. An easy way to spread cheer and fundraise, this is definitely an activity to add to your December calendar!

Host a festive bake sale

You can’t go wrong when it comes to tasty treats at Christmas time. Combining seasonal cheer with community spirit, a bake sale is a great opportunity to get your whole school baking and buying.

We suggest turning your school hall into a Christmas grotto and playing some jolly festive tunes to create a winter wonderland. Bake sales are also a great opportunity to teach your students important life skills such as financial management and budgeting.

Organise a festive film night

From Elf to Miracle on 34th Street, the Christmas classics are endless. Why not host a festive film night for your pupils, their families and school staff, charging all participants an entry fee? You could even bring some tasty treats and decorate the school hall to really get everyone into the holiday spirit.

Throw a ‘12 days of sport’ challenge

A twist on the famous ‘12 days of Christmas’ song, our final fundraising idea is organising a friendly competition between your classes, with different sports taking place throughout 12 days in December.

Think outside the box and use this as an opportunity to introduce your pupils to sports they might not have previously tried. To raise money, we suggest encouraging your students to collect sponsors to reach a set goal within each sport.
