About the Role


We are working with a specialist SEND school in Blackpool that is looking to appoint a resilient and empathetic Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This role is ideal for individuals from backgrounds such as support work, youth work, residential care, or similar, or those with personal experience supporting individuals with additional needs. The school supports both primary and secondary-aged pupils, so flexibility or preference across either age group is welcomed.
You'll play a key role in helping pupils regulate emotions, build trust, and re-engage with education.

Key Responsibilities


  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Build strong, consistent relationships to support trust and engagement

  • Support behaviour management using de-escalation and positive strategies

  • Assist pupils in developing emotional regulation and coping skills

  • Support access to learning in and out of the classroom

  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams

  • Provide personal care where required

Who We're Looking For


  • Experience in support work, youth work, residential care, or similar

  • Strong behaviour management or de-escalation skills

  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • Ability to build rapport with pupils who may display challenging behaviour

  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs

  • Open to working across primary and/or secondary settings

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
