About the Position


We are currently recruiting for an Unqualified SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Blackpool. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs, helping them to access education, develop confidence, and achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.
The school provides a supportive and inclusive environment for pupils with a variety of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties, and learning disabilities.

Your Role


As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored support that enables pupils to engage with learning and reach their individual targets. You will play an important role in promoting independence, building confidence, and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
Previous experience within a SEND setting is desirable; however, we welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience gained through care work, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, volunteering, or personal experience supporting individuals with additional needs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support pupils throughout lessons and school activities.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions where required.
  • Encourage engagement, participation, and positive behaviour.
  • Assist in implementing personalised learning and support plans.
  • Support pupils' emotional, social, and academic development.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals.
  • Provide personal care support when necessary.

Essential Qualities

  • Passion for supporting children and young people with SEND.
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient nature.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the individual needs of pupils.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults.
  • Understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or other additional needs.
  • Background in education, care, residential support, youth services, coaching, or community work.
  • Relevant qualifications are beneficial but not essential.

  • All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
