SEN Teaching Assistant - Job Description
Location: Specialist SEN School, Stoke-on-Trent
Timings:0830-1630
Rate of pay: From £125 per day
Purpose of the Role
To support pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions, communication needs and associated social, emotional and sensory difficulties in accessing education, developing independence and achieving their individual learning goals within a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils in lessons on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning programmes.
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
Help pupils develop communication, social and independence skills.
Support students with sensory needs and anxiety using agreed strategies.
Encourage pupil participation in classroom and school activities.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families to meet individual pupil needs.
Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
Prepare learning materials and classroom resources.
Maintain safeguarding, health and safety and school policies at all times.

Essential Skills and Qualities
Passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
Patient, calm and nurturing approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
Understanding of Autism, sensory needs and behaviour support strategies.
Flexible and adaptable attitude.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.
Desirable
Previous experience working in an SEN or school setting.
Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Conditions and therapeutic approaches.
Relevant TA, SEN or childcare qualification.
