Service Accountant - Interim
Spencer Clarke Group are working closely with a London Local Authority to appoint an Interim Service Accountant to provide proactive financial support across a range of service areas.
This is a hands-on interim assignment focused on supporting budget holders through the full annual budget cycle, including budget setting, budget monitoring and accounts closure across both revenue and capital.

The Role
The successful candidate will provide high-quality financial advice, support and challenge to budget holders, helping services manage their finances effectively and identify emerging risks.
Key responsibilities:
· Supporting budget holders with budget setting, monitoring and accounts closure.
· Providing accurate financial information across revenue and capital budgets.
· Producing clear working papers and maintaining audit trails.
· Building strong working relationships with service managers and stakeholders.
· Providing financial information for returns, FOIs and internal/external requests.
· Identifying emerging financial risks and supporting managers with solutions.
· Providing project finance support where required.
· Deputising for the Group Accountant where necessary.
· Supporting and coaching Accountancy Assistants within the team.
About You
You will ideally have:
· Experience in a customer-focused management accounting or service finance environment.
· Experience supporting budget holders and managing cost centres.
· Exposure to budget setting, budget monitoring and accounts closure.
· Experience working across revenue and capital budgets.
· Strong spreadsheet / Excel skills.
· An understanding of local government finance and council services.
· Fully qualified AAT, part-qualified CCAB, or relevant accounting experience within a large organisation.
