Are you passionate about supporting children who need additional help to thrive in education? Do you have experience working with children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or challenging behaviour? Perhaps you have transferable skills from youth work, residential care, coaching, or support work.

We are looking for caring, resilient, and enthusiastic Support Staff to join a specialist Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Eccles area. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support in a nurturing and structured environment.

The Role

As a member of the Support Staff team, you will:

  • Support primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Build positive relationships that promote trust, engagement, and confidence.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and tailored learning activities.
  • Encourage positive behaviour using consistent strategies and behaviour management techniques.
  • Support pupils with their emotional wellbeing, social development, and self-regulation.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to help pupils achieve their individual goals.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
  • Have transferable skills from roles such as support work, youth work, care work, sports coaching, mentoring, or residential care.
  • Are calm, patient, and resilient, with a positive and proactive attitude.
  • Can build strong relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Hold an Enhanced Child and Adult DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for a new DBS.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in a PRU, alternative provision, or specialist education setting.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Team Teach or similar positive behaviour management training (desirable but not essential).

If you're committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children who need extra support, we'd love to hear from you.
